Visual experiments at the edge of utility

Auratelier is a digital instrument exploring the delicate threshold between practical everyday utility and contemplative visual atmosphere.

It combines procedural colour mixing, optical light diffusion, and subtle frequency modulation to create responsive audio-visual backgrounds calibrated specifically for deep writing, composition, and cognitive focus.

Why this project exists

A study in mood as a functional tool. Most productivity applications attempt to enforce concentration through aggressive gamification—countdown Pomodoro timers, notification badges, and streak trackers. Auratelier investigates whether software can instead induce sustained focus through soft spectral lighting, harmonic resonance, and meditative gradient shifts.

Disciplines & technologies

  • Atmospheric UI & Spatial Presence — Designing interactive surfaces that feel ambient, quiet, and alive without demanding active foreground attention.
  • Generative Shaders & WebGL — Creating lightweight, GPU-accelerated gradient diffusion fields that react smoothly to user input.
  • Colour Theory & Circadian Calibrations — Tuning spectral palettes for different hours of the day to support cognitive stamina.

Current state

An active experimental web application and creative studio prototype, exploring the intersection of generative aesthetics and human attention.
